Teaching Line

Lines in Painting   Lines in Collage   Lines in Textiles

Teaching Lines in Kindergarten at the beginning of the year from lesson to lesson was very successful.  We drew them in the air with our pointer fingers & recited them as they appear slow, straight lines-swirly, loopty-loopty lines and zip zip zig-zaggy lines. They started with big black crayon line drawings, explored their favorite line in painting it with a pattern, combined to patterns in collage and worked with partners to create a textile weaving.  They made individual paper weavings prior to textile weaving.

Focusing on lines in a variety of mediums the first weeks of school gave them the confidence they needed in the Big Studio they were about to be a part of after walking by all year as Pre-K students!  Growing continually by focusing on line opened that creative window and eliminated all those butterflies you feel in those first few weeks.  This artsaysthat the simplicity of Line can create more than we would expect of our fresh young minds!
