Bringing the Outside In

Yesterday was so much fun with the Kindergarten! We finally had a clear morning and sun was out. Our focus in the studio these last few weeks across all grades has been seeing how Artists use line to show movement, pattern, convey emotion, define space and create shapes. In getting to know lines, Kindergarteners have created line patterns, recited lines, identified them in paintings, collaged lines and lastly found them outside! At the Corcoran, we have been talking about fostering more meaning to the artwork our students produce. We challenge ourselves each lesson by asking: How could promote student identity and ground students in our world by connecting them to their environment? I believe these photos speak for themselves, yet I will add this artsaysthat: this lesson has encouraged independence, self-assessment and connection to seeing our world through Art.
