Today I went to three shows. “The Neighbors Window” directed by Marshall Curry followed by “Sell By” directed by Mike Doyle with a Q&A of both directors. Curry’s is only 20 minutes and is my favorite of the two. How much you can say, learn, see and feel in just 20 minutes! Set in two New York City apartments theContinue reading “SCAD Film Fest reviews”

Small Works Gallery Tour
Studio A5 Open studios was so much fun and loved the visitors of mine in A5. Two of my neighbors arrived, met lots of students that took pictures and heard great comments about my work. Paige Byrne Slide Presentation Looking to paint big and transform my work through the MFA painting program at SCAD has been a great experience in developing content, composition and color palette.
Grass is boss today!
The theme of grass in this body of recent work is giving me so much joy, excitement and motivation to paint. I loved standing, moving, gesturing and repeating the brushstrokes of the large works. It was like a workout. The grass is taking me back to my roots of Tennessee. The freedom of going outsideContinue reading “Grass is boss today!”
Grass studies small works
Elkins shares that grass is most likely one of the most overlooked plants, but I know, we know you know, grass has got gut. The smell of fresh cut grass can make us swoon, the perfect edging across the street can make us green with envy, a brown patch on the lawn can cause youContinue reading “Grass studies small works”
Exploring geo grids with abstraction
The process of looking at my painting through the grid was pretty cool in determining where to layer color. I will be trying this on the larger scale works and think with the size and ability to move along surface with paint will allow me to be more expressive.
Research for local grass
This morning I headed out route 80 to head towards the marsh in hopes to find periwinkle snails clinging to spartina grass. The colors were glorious, sounds of birds and water activity were circulating and the layers of texture was appealing. Next time I will wear y’all rubber boots to get closer, but I wasContinue reading “Research for local grass”
Secret Geometry Composition Study
Using the geometrical patterns of the masters to study the my paintings has been helpful in composition, palette and content. In my recent works of grass lawns in slide show below, I used memory from my own visits along the east coast while observing Diebenkorns “Ocean Park” series. I see from applying the geometric matrixContinue reading “Secret Geometry Composition Study”
25 Works Revised
With four grass studies to frame today, the 25 small works will be complete! The process has led me to new thinking about content, palette and composition. The points Elkins makes in observing man made objects and natural objects to consider the history, funtion, materials yielded new perspectives in my mind. So in the processContinue reading “25 Works Revised”
Process of today’s Grass works
I say process of today, because there are other ideas on the way using other materials for the grass works. Today’s process was masking off a square in the grass paintings with masking tape to preserve a small window. I was thinking more about how the grass feels directly on your body and that theContinue reading “Process of today’s Grass works”
